How they MY STUDENTS have answered that question

Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not?
It was Vivica Fox who asked Shamcey Supsup (fourth-placer to Miss Angola Leila Lopes) at the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant.
Her answer will now be part of “beauty” history: “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me. And I have my faith, my principles, and this what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.”
Out of curiosity, I asked Filipina my students (members of SoSS) how they would answer that question. Here are some of them:

Mika Laine S. Simpao I-2

thea breva said...
jolina said...
glendale dino said...
cjladeras said...
mark lester said...
1)
1. if i gonna change my religion , i will marry the guy who loves me and have faith in god .if the person that i loved walang faith at principle ipapayo ko na lang ang diyos ay siyang lumikha sa mundo at tao.

isinantabi muna, panandaliang ipinahinga.

nang dahil saýo akoý muling nakagawa,
nakapagtagni-tagni ng mga makabuluhang kataga,
isinatitik mga ideyang sa puso nagmula,
nailapat sa taludtod hanggang naging akda.

naging mabulaklak muli itong aking isipan

Tips on Gay Relationships

These days of instant noodles, instant coffee, and instant gratification, long-term relationships are hard to find. Especially in the gay scene, I would say you’re lucky if you get past 12 months. So many men, too little time… LOL! But seriously, just like any hetero relationship, a gay relationship needs to be tended and taken care of for it to stay fresh and alive. It’s like gardening. Patience, common sense, and some of the following tips could spell you a life-long, and fulfilling relationship with your partner. Read on!
1. Avoid placing all your emotional needs on your partner. Develop your own individual identity and through those experiences, your relationship will be enriched as you keep breathing new life into it.
2. Even if you’ve been together a long time, never expect your partner to know what your needs are. Mind-reading and making assumptions only leads to misunderstandings and potential conflicts. Learn to be assertive and ask directly for what you want.
3. Characteristic of relationship development, most couples have a diminishment of that honeymoon phase “high” that’s experienced in the beginning of a relationship when they first started dating. This is normal and not a reason to be concerned that there is something necessarily wrong.
When this occurs, strive to bring more creativity and vitality into your relationship and sex life to spice things up. Surprise your partner. Be spontaneous and playful. Make him see how special and important he is to you.
4. Examine your satisfaction with the roles you play in your relationship. A real advantage of gay relationships is the ability to be flexible with life roles and not to have to ascribe to traditional sex role stereotypes commonly held in heterosexual relationships. Negotiate such roles and tasks openly and freely with your partner, acknowledging areas of strength and talent in this decision-making.
5. Avoid letting disagreements turn into ugly verbal battles where things could be said that are later regretted. Learn basic anger management principles and know when to call a “Time-Out” to defuse unproductive anger. Also learn how to re-engage following the cool-down period so issues can be resolved peacefully.
6. Don’t let the busyness of life take away from your relationship. Find a balance between work, alone time, friends, family, and time spent as a couple. Make “Date Night” a regular part of your lifestyle where you avoid discussing your problems or issues and just enjoy spending that quality time together. Never take each other for granted and remember that you’re a team.

pinagsamahang hirap at saya nating dalawa.
   Madalas nakakalimutan na talaga kita,
tanggap ko nang ikaý tuluyang wala na.

Wny Drink Beer?

Beer, if drank in moderation, softens the temper, cheers the spirit, and promotes health.’
-Thomas Jefferson

Why drink beer?
Who ever thought there would be health benefits to drinking beer? Well, there is! Studies have revealed that beer can produce the same benefits as drinking wine. Whether you prefer ales, lagers, stout, bitter or wheat beers, studies show that one drink a day for women or up to two drinks a day for men will reduce your chances of strokes, heart and vascular disease. It’s no secret that the stroke is the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. and the leading cause of serious, long-term disabilities.

What’s interesting is that it was proven (New England Journal of Medicine – Nov. 1999) that those who drank one beer a week compared to those who drank one beer a day experienced no variance in reducing stroke risks. It is said that light to moderate drinkers will decrease their chances of suffering a stroke by 20%.
A researcher at the Texas Southwestern Medical Center (May 1999) reported that those who consume moderate amounts of beer (one to two a day at the most) have a 30-40% lower rate of coronary heart disease compared to those who don’t drink. Beer contains a similar amount of ‘polyphenols’ (antioxidants) as red wine and 4-5 times as many polyphenols as white wine.
Alcohol has also been attributed of its ability to increase the amount of good cholesterol (HDL) into the bloodstream as well as help to decrease blood clots.
Beer also contains vitamin B6, which prevents the build-up of amino acid called homocysteine that has been linked to heart disease. Those of us who have high levels of homocysteine are usually more prone to an early onset of heart and vascular disease. A new study performed at the TNO Nutrition and Food Research Institute in Utrecht indicates that those who drink beer had no increase in their homocysteine level but those who drank wine or liquor had an increase of up to 10%. Also noted was the fact that those who drank beer experienced a 30% increase in vitamin B6 in their blood plasma, thereby proving that beer (in moderation) is actually healthier to drink than wine and other liquor.
Did you know?
- Beer is nutritious if consumed in moderation
- That beer is fat-free and cholesterol free?
- Beer has a relaxing effect on the body thereby reducing stress.
- It can help you sleep better
- It helps prevent heart disease and improves the blood circulation
- It has proven to have positive effects on elderly people. It helps to promote blood vessel dilation, sleep, and urination.
An average beer contains the following:
0mg of cholesterol
0g of fat
13g of carbohydrate
25mg of sodium
protein, calcium, potassium, phosphorus and vitamins B, B2, and B6
Cuisine a la biere…
Beer in cooking is deeply rooted in Western Europe . Beer is incomparable as a cooking tool. With its unique flavors and versatilities is it unmatched. Due to the fact that alcohol has a much lower boiling temperature than water, it evaporates quickly while cooking your recipe and thereby only leaves the characteristic taste of the beer.
Some ways to use beer in cooking are as follows:
-Marinades for beef – both tenderizes and adds flavor.
-Used as a substitute for water in different soups and stocks – adds much more flavor to your recipes.
-Used in batters for fried foods.
-Added to gravies to spice up the taste.
-Used as a cooking base/liquid for steaming foods (sausages, shellfish, clams, etc.)
Just remember when cooking with beer, keep your beer’s primary taste in mind. Malty beers add a sweet/nutty taste while hop lagers can add a bitter/herbal flavor. Beer increases in bitterness as it reduces to use a sweeter/malty beer when cooking for long periods of time.
Now after reading all this ‘good stuff’ on beer, this isn’t to say that you should go out and get ‘boozed up’ because it’s good for you! Obviously the key, as was mentioned earlier, is moderation. Drinking in excess of these guidelines has been associated with an increased risk of several serious health ailments, such as cancer, high blood pressure, and liver disease. Be warned that drinking over moderation can lead to liver damage, dangers of drunk driving, and damage to fetuses of pregnant women who are drinking…just to name a few.

Voice of the Customer

Subject: Voice of the Customer: One of my Glorious days during my stint as a call center agent!
The customer went out of her way to commend our very own Arnold De Vera,
a pride of Team Indiana!

This is what Karen Williams has to say:

I just wanted to inform you of a recent customer service call I placed with your incredible sales representative Aron.

My goal was to cancel a reservation due to poor planning on my behalf.
I was seeking Expedia account credit for my mistake.
Aron was able to reimburse my account swiftly and even generate a couple of giggles from me.

He was very personable and seemed like he genuinely cared.
Thank you Aron for helping me out!

Expedia just created a raving fan!

Naging Teacher nyo Ba Ako?

Here are some of the messages from my students  way back Southeastern days. I came to browse on their FB accounts.

Jasmin, Acacia, naging teacher ko si Sir, Blardony is right, you missed the fun if you didn't got a chance to have him as a teacher, DARNA!
